What is an ISO accreditation body?

The Department of Standards Malaysia (STANDARDS MALAYSIA), the national accreditation body in Malaysia, is a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF)

The IAF is the world association of Conformity Assessment Accreditation Bodies in the fields of management systems, products, services, personnel, and other conformity assessment program. Its primary function is to develop a single worldwide program of conformity assessment that reduces risk for business and its customers by assuring them that accredited certificates may be relied upon. Accreditation assures users of the competence and impartiality of the body accredited and that they are operated independently under ISO/IEC 17021:2011 (conformity assessment — Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems.)

Certification body can be accredited by different bodies such as STANDARDS MALAYSIA, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), and the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ).

Companies can apply for certification from more than one accredited body. Say you choose a certification body accredited by STANDARD MALAYSIA and UKAS. Each would issue a certificate with one audit performed.
